Halloween Treat Ideas – Halloween Cupcakes

I love cupcakes and Halloween means that I can experiment with some spooky, kooky or all together ecky Halloween cupcakes!   You can decorate your Halloween cupcakes so that they are also part of the ‘props’ at your Halloween get together.   There are so many different ideas for Halloween cupcakes and a number of them have been compiled in one place which is very conveniently called Halloween Cupcake.

This site lists a number of different types of Halloween cupcakes for you to try from Eyeball Cupcakes to Spider Cupcakes, Ghost Cupcakes to Brain Cupcakes if you can’t find a delicious tasting (although sometimes far from delicious looking!) cupcake to serve on Halloween at this site then there is something seriously wrong!

The site also tells you how you can ‘cheat’ if you don’t feel confident enough with your cake decorating skills so what more could you want?   Personally I don’t even want to wait until Halloween to start making these cupcakes!

Here’s some cool Halloween cupcake ideas from flickr –

Costumes Beginning with D

Fancy Dress Outfits Starting with the Letter D

Lots of Halloween Costume ideas that begin with the letter D

If you’re looking for costume ideas that start with the letter D then you’ve come to the right place as I have selected some great costumes for you to choose from. Star Wars fans will love to see that Darth Vader is available while Scooby fans can enjoy dressing up as Daphne, but there are many other costumes to choose from besides those.

I compiled this page along with a number of others as resource pages for anyone who’s been invited to an alphabet party. I used to get invited to a lot of alphabet parties when I was in my 20s and I think it’s high time they caught on again! In a nutshell you have to dress up as something beginning with a particular letter and if you’re on this webpage then the letter chosen is the letter D! I have other webpages available that cover the rest of the letters of the alphabet, but let’s look at costumes beginning with D right now.

Cool Costumes Beginning with D

  • Dad’s Army – costumes based on this old British television comedy about the Home Guard during the war would be good and you could use this as a group costume idea as well.

  • Daffy Duck
  • Dairymaid
  • Daisy Duke
  • Dalai Lama
  • Dalek – having grown up with the Classic Dr Who, I love the idea of going around saying ‘Exterminate, Exterminate’ all night!
  • Dallas Cowboy or even a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader
  • Dalmation

  • Dancers – A great costume idea that starts with D is a dancer and this is where you can have a lot of fun because there are so many interpretations of dancers from ballerinas to a hip-hop dancers and more. • Darth Maul
  • Darth Vader – I love the idea of dressing up as Darth Vader just so that I can put on his voice with the only phrase I can ever remember of his – Luke, I am your father!

You dress up as a Dead Bride, Dead Groom, Dead Cheerleader, Dead Cowboy, you get the idea. A cool idea is to take the costume you wore last time you had a fancy dress event and basically ‘trash it’, roll around on the grass, smudge it with dirt and maybe rip it a little until it looks like it could’ve been dug up and say you’re a dead fill in the blank..Alternatively, you can just buy a ready-made costume like the ones below or check out some of the ideas on other posts such as zombie costumes for men, zombie costumes for women, zombie costumes for boys or zombie costumes for girls.

Pac Man costumes are also popular at Halloween and also 80s themed parties and not only can you get Pac Man your can also get all of the ghosts as costumes.   In fact I’ve even managed to find a set of six Pacman costumes that you could use as a group costume idea – how awesome would that be?   Yes, you’ve guessed it I’m a child of the 80s so I love Pac Man, but check out these and see if you don’t agree they are great costumes –

Pac-Man Deluxe Group Costume
Set Of 6

Not only does this set contain the four ghosts – Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde – along with Pac Man it also has a power pellet costume too!

The game inspired Halloween Costumes don’t stop with Angry Bird Costumes and Pac Man costumes either there are lots of different examples, from Tomb Raider who was not only a game, but a movie franchise as well as a Halloween costume through to Halo 3.

I think two of the most popular of the other game inspired Halloween costumes would have to be the Mario Brothers range of costumes and the Halo range of costumes, so I’ve decided to add links here for your to check them out for yourself.

For a range of Super Mario Brothers costumes check out the selection of Super Mario Bros Costumes available here.   The costumes include your choice of Mario or Luigi as well as a gorgeous Princess Peach costume.

The Halo costumes are also very popular and include this deluxe Halo Supreme edition costume –

Halo Supreme Edition Costume

My daughter thinks the Angry Birds Costumes are definitely the best ones mentioned here, while I’m stick stuck at Pac Man……it’s just trying to decide which one of the collection I prefer! Let me know which games inspired costume you prefer.

Outdoor Halloween Graveyard Decorations

Outdoor Halloween Graveyard Decorations

Spooky graveyard for HalloweenGraveyards/Cemeteries are spooky which is why the Halloween Graveyard is one of the most enduring Halloween themes. You can decorate both your house and garden as a graveyard, but I think that an outside graveyard is the spookiest option. There are lots of different ways in which you can create your very own Halloween graveyard.  You can buy a range of different Halloween graveyard decorations or even make your own.

You can start off your graveyard with tombstones and crosses and there are certainly lots of props available, but there are so many different options for you to make your Halloween Graveyard stand out from the others. If you want to create the spookiest Cemetery ever (albeit rather ‘traditional’) from skeletons to tombstones and even the grim reaper himself then have a look at this Halloween Graveyard post, but if you want your Halloween graveyard to be a little different then keep reading.

Halloween Graveyard Fence

Now you may already have a fenced yard or you may have hedging plants, but there’s just something about fencing off your Halloween graveyard that adds another element to the spooky factor you’re craving. There are some cool Halloween Graveyard fencing available for you to purchase which works really well such as these options –

Halloween Decoration Cemetery Iron Fence Kit Creepy Fence Border Party Accessory (1 count) (1/Pkg) Forum Novelties Cemetery Fence Prop, 2-Pieces

&

These can be used to great effect in fact you can even lean a couple of tombstones against them to get this spooky look –

Cemetery Fence Prop

&

These aren’t the only way you can create a cool Halloween graveyard fence for your own cemetery however, another option is to simply use an old fence or even a picket fence.

Using a picket fence around the area you can add different things to the fence like drops of blood, bits of flesh or a couple of ravens which transforms an ordinary picket fence into a scary ‘what kind of horrors lurk behind it’ kind of fence.

Another option is to use old fence palings that are rotted and falling down to create the effect of an old abandoned graveyard lurking behind.

The Gravestones – Important Halloween Graveyard Decorations

What is a graveyard or cemetery without gravestones. Of course you could forgo gravestones for a few wooden crosses, you could even make them crude handmade wooden crosses with names carved in them and create the illusion of an old abandoned ghost town from the old black and white western movies. If you want to go for that look then you could even put an old frayed noose over a tree as well.

You can make your own tombstones for your Halloween graveyard and this can be a fun activity in the lead up to Halloween or you can buy a range of different tombstones from very basic ones to more ornate options –

22in Mossy Celtic Cross Tombstone (Standard) Fake Tombstones – Halloween Yard Decoration The Vampire Demon Tombstone Statue

&

Once you’ve decided on the tombstones you have to decide on what else you’re going to add to your graveyard and this is where you can really stand out from the crowd.

Creating Your Halloween Graveyard Scene

Deciding on what props to add to your graveyard will help pull everything together and there are lots of options you can choose from including spooky Halloween trees – you can get some that are motion activated to make noises that will heighten visitors’ fears. You could go down the ghost route, after all where better to see a ghost than a graveyard? Then again you could do the whole ‘rise of the dead’ theme instead. This theme can be a lot of fun and there are some great props available for you to really make this the best halloween graveyard.

Another option is just to leave it as a graveyard and simply have a bat or two hanging from the tree, people will be on edge expecting more leaving it as a graveyard with the odd bat and maybe some fog (I do love using a fog machine on Halloween) will keep them on edge without needing to add anything else. Of course if you emerge as the creepy cemetery caretaker from behind a tree it will make them jump as well!

Rasta Imposta Campbell’s Chunky Soup Can, Red/White, One Size

  • Can-Can Girl – If you’ve got the legs then a Can Can girl is a really sexy costume to wear…….’na nana nana nana, nana nana nana……’ you know you’re humming it! I must admit watching Bad Manners perform the Can Can really put me off the image, but then it was the 80s!!
  • Captain – To quote the movie Dead Poet’s Society – ‘O Captain, my Captain’. There are lots of different Captains that you can dress up as including Captain America one of Marvel’s best and the classic Captain Hook (you’ve just got to watch out in case someone is dressing up as a crocodile!). Starline Women’s Cigarette Girl Costume Set, Pink/Black

I absolutely love these vintage costume ideas, I took one look at this costume and I was instantly transported back to Sunday afternoons as a teenager when I would watch old black and white movies with my dad. The likes of Cary Grant, James Stewart, Eva Marie Saint and Grace Kelly would be on the screen and if the action was happening in a club there would always be a cigarette girl walking around.
Of course this was in the days when people thought that smoking was good for you so it was all very glamorous!

  • Cinderella – it’s not just little girls who like to be a princess!
  • Cinema Usher/usherette – you can dress up in a uniform with a little hat and a tray with your goodies on it for the ‘old time’ ushers that came around at intermission with refreshments or else you can just be in black trousers, white shirt and have a torch to show latecomers to their seats.

  • Cookie – choc chip would be my preference!
