Scarlett O'Hara CostumeScarlett O’Hara Costume

This is a beautiful Scarlet O’Hara costume that anyone who loves the Southern Belle style of dress would simply adore.   White and frilly it’s a very feminine dress from the Victorian South and includes the belt to add a little color and the brooch to add a historical element to the costume.    Don’t forget the haughty demeanor of Ms O’Hara and you really will be the ‘belle of the ball’ at whatever event you’re attending.

Now if you would prefer a little more color for your costume then we can check out some of the other Scarlett O’Hara Halloween costumes available.

Vampire Cocktails

Vampire Cocktail

1 scoop vanilla ice cream

drizzle of grenadine

Blend together all of the ingredients, except the grenadine, until smooth. Pour into a cocktail glass and then drizzle the grenadine over the top.

8 ounces cachaca

Mix all of the ingredients together in a large punch bown. Add frozen fingers (recipe below) and serve.

Garlic Martinis?

Begone Vampires, Begone!

There is a way to keep vampires at bay and that is garlic. So give your vampire guests a trick instead of a treat in the guise of a Garlic Martini.

If you have the foresight you can infuse your own vodka to make our first recipe, if not do not despair as there are a couple of other recipes to follow.

Garlic Martini #1

2 parts garlic infused vodka

½ part dry vermouth

This can be shaken or stirred and is great garnished with a couple of cloves of garlic.

Garlic Martini #2

1 clove garlic

1 shot gin

1 dash vermouth

Crush a clove of garlic in the bottom of a martini glass and then add the gin. Pop the dash of vermouth on the top and garnish with an olive (preferably a garlic stuffed one).

Garlic Martini #3

1 clove of garlic

2 oz potato vodka

1 dash dry vermouth

Crush the clove of garlic in the base of a cocktail shaker. Add the vodka and vermouth to the shaker, along with ice, and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve with garlic-stuffed olives.

Halloween Party To Do List

Still Feeling Bloodthirsty?

Try a Cocktail Instead

The Bloodsucker Cocktail

1½ oz bacardi

½ oz cointreau

2 oz pineapple juice

1 tbsp strawberry puree

Put the rum, cointreau and juice into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a Collins glass over ice. Dip the end of a drinking straw into the puree and, holding the tip of your finger over the other end, use the straw to squirt puree into the bottom half of the drink. It will sink in red blotches, like blood splatter.

Bloody Brain Shooter

1¼ oz strawberry vodka

⅛ oz Rose’s lime juice

¾ oz Baileys

splash of grenadine

Put the vodka and lime juice into a shaker and shake well. Strain into a shot glass. Using a straw dip some Baileys into the shot, once you submerge the straw into the Baileys put your finger on top of the straw to hold the liquid in the straw. Next dip the straw tip into the vodka and slowly release your top finger. The Baileys will curdle slightly due to the lime juice and you should be able to make strands of the Baileys. Repeat this process a few times until you have built a “brain” inside the shot glass. After this add a splash of grenadine to the shot so that you have the effect of blood.

This takes a while but the effect is well worth it.

Another drink that has a similar look is the Brain Hemorrhage, although it is easier to make.

Brain Hemorrhage

1 measure peach schnapps

1 tsp Baileys

½ tsp grenadine

Pour the peach schnapps into a shot glass, next carefully float the Baileys on top. Finally top with the grenadine.

Scary Ice Cubes for your Halloween Drinks

It’s Halloween, Who’re You Gonna Call? – Ghostbusters!

Ghost Inspired Halloween Cocktails

Baileys was made for Halloween cocktails as it masquerades really well as a ghost trapped in the glass. One such cocktail is the Ghostbuster, named after the 1984 hit movie.

1 oz peach schnapps

1 oz melon liqueur

3-5 drops baileys

Put the schnapps and liqueur into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and add the baileys drop by drop into the middle of the drink.

The Ghost

1¼ oz vanilla vodka

¼ oz chocolate liqueur

¼ oz half’n’half

¼ oz simple syrup

Put all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve (a delicious, but not spooky twist is to rim the glass with white chocolate shavings).

Irish Ghost

1 oz baileys

1 oz coffee liqueur

1 oz herbal liqueur such as chartreuse

2 oz cream

Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, with ice and shake. Strain into an Irish coffee cup to serve.

The Color of Halloween – Orange and Black Cocktails

Orange and black are the recognized colors of Halloween so of course the Black Martini is a must have drink at any Halloween party. Make it more festive by using orange colored sugar on the glass rim as a garnish.

There is also a Black vodka on the market which makes for stunning looking Screwdrivers.

Then of course you have food coloring, this can be added to any clear cocktail that you make in order to add more atmosphere.

Black Martini

2 shots blackcurrant vodka

1 shot chambord

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Halloween Screwdriver

tangerine juice

black vodka

Fill a highball glass with ice and then pour tangerine juice to halfway. The next step is to carefully pour the black vodka on top.

Black Widow

Fill a highball glass with ice and then pour the cranberry juice to halfway. Next pour top up carefully with the black vodka.

Non-Alcoholic Cocktails – Halloween Mocktails

Spooky Drinks for Designated Drivers

Your designated drivers have to stay alert on Halloween in order to avoid any wandering zombies on the way home. They also want to have some fun, so get out the food coloring and start coloring up the lemonade for a bit of Halloween fun. Also try the Halloween mocktails on offer.

Witches Brew (non-alcoholic)

This will make up 5 quarts.

12 cups cranberry-raspberry juice

4½ cups orange juice

2 cups pineapple juice

2 cups fresh lime juice

Combine all of the ingredients together and chill, pour into a punch bowl with some severed hand ice cubes to serve.

Halloween Sparkle Punch

This is enough punch for 8.

2/3 cup tang orange drink mix

1 quart cold water

2 cups cold ginger ale

1 pint blackberry sherbet

Place drink mix in bowl, add water and stir to dissolve. Refrigerate until party time.

When putting the punch out stir in the ginger ale.

Put 1/4 cup of sherbet in the bottom of each cup and pour drink over it.

Devil’s Juice

3 oz. cranberry (or cranapple) juice

3 oz. tomato juice

1 tsp. Tabasco sauce

1 tsp. lemon juice

2 dashes black pepper

Dash salt

Mix all of the ingredients together in a mixing glass. To serve pour into a Collins glass over ice.

If I’ve missed off your favorite Halloween cocktail then I’m really sorry please feel free to leave the recipe in my visitors book.

Happy Spooking!

Halloween Costume Ideas – Costumes Beginning with K

Fancy Dress Ideas Beginning with K

Have you ever been to an alphabet party? When I was in my early 20s they were all the rage, somehow everytime I was invited to one it was always a P party which meant dressing up as something beginning with the letter P. You can choose any letter of the alphabet however and today I’ve chosen the letter K.

Fancy dress parties or costume parties are so much more fun when they’re themed and choosing a letter to base your party around is fun because seeing how people interpret it can be really interesting….some people really know how to think outside of the box.

Katniss Everdeen Costume

A Hunger Games Costume Idea

Katniss Everdeen, hero of the Hunger Games series of teen books and the movie franchise is a popular choice for a ‘K’ costume. You can make your own Katniss costume – cargo pants, boots, oversized jacket and bow and arrow for example or you can get one that’s ready made like below.

This is from the the second movie in the franchise – Catching Fire and is the suit that Katniss wears when all of the previous winners are pitted against each other in a special Hunger Games.

In every fairytale there is a knight ready to save the day, these are the more classic versions of them.

Halloween Decorating Ideas – The Bloody Bathroom

Create a Bathroom Worthy of The Bates Motel This Halloween!

Bloody Shower Curtain - fun Halloween decorThere are so many different ways that you can dress up your bathroom for Halloween, but I think a bloody bathroom is one of the best. Using this Bloody Shower Curtain and building your bathroom decorating around it can give you a great Norman Bates inspired bathroom.

This is guaranteed to leave your guests a little on edge when they go to wash their hands and I doubt you’ll have any long queues as people won’t want to linger where it looks like there’s been a murder!

As soon as I saw this bloody shower curtain on Amazon I could almost hear Janet Leigh’s scream and I just knew what was going to be in our bathroom this Halloween! Read on to see how you can expand on the idea behind this shower curtain to create your very own bathroom of gore – I’ll even share my Psycho movie story with you ……. it’s not just Janet Leigh who can scream!

In a Hurry?  Check out all the bloody bathroom Halloween decor deals.

A Norman Bates/Psycho Shower Curtain

Creating a Bloody Bathroom Scene

When I saw the above shower curtain I could hear Janet Leigh’s scream in my head, but if you want to replicate it you could try this shower curtain below that is also inspired by Norman Bates. It comes with a sound box and replicates her scream as people walk into the room – now that’s a great Halloween trick!

Psycho Killer Bloody Shower CurtainPsycho Killer Bloody Shower Curtain

The shadow as well as the blood is guaranteed to make me jump when I see it, even if I’ve put it there myself!
One of the reviewers on Amazon even mentions that they put a strobe light in the shower stall behind this curtain – now my imagination is telling me that it would be an awesome idea…….{{wandering off to see if I can get hold of a strobe light}}
Okay this shower curtain DOES NOT contain the sound box, unfortunately the one I used to feature doesn’t appear to be available anymore, but this is still a cool idea for a shower curtain.

Who’s Norman Bates, what scream? If you’re asking these questions then you haven’t seen the movie Psycho, it’s an absolute classic and Janet Leigh gets killed in the shower when Norman Bates stabs her – now it makes sense doesn’t it? While we’re talking about Psycho let me tell you about my introduction to the movie….

The 1st time I ever watched Psycho was years and years after it was released and what was I doing? Staying in a motel with my hubby. This proved not to be a very good idea.

I was having a shower the next morning (and yes there was a shower curtain) and my hubby came in to see if I wanted a cuppa….I saw the shadow outside of the shower and did a great impression of Janet Leigh! – I’m not allowed to watch Horror movies in motels anymore!

Back to creating a bloody bathroom.

If you don’t use a shower curtain then don’t despair you can still create a bloody bathroom feature by using bloody Halloween clings on the inside of a shower door or the outside of the bathroom window and a bloody bathmat just by the shower is a great touch too.

More Than Just a Bloody Shower Curtain

More Bloody Halloween Decor for Your Bathroom

There are lots of different ways of creating a bloody bathroom besides a Norman Bates inspired shower curtain. A great idea is to start off with some crime scene tape and putting it across the bathroom door signalling a crime scene ahead, a liberal amount of fake blood and bloody Halloween clings around your bathroom could create soem great atmosphere.

Other ideas are adding a few severed body parts into the bath or poking out from behind the shower curtain just daring people to take a peek

Not only would this be a fantastic idea for Halloween you could also have a themed Dexter party when the new season begins and create a bloody bathroom for him to investigate.   Alternatively if you want a night in with friends watching horror movies then you can create a bathroom for a bit of fun – I’d hate to be the first unsuspecting guest to need to go to the bathroom!   It would certainly be a night that would be talked about for some time I imagine.
