You can buy the wig or if you have long hair then use your own hair. The wig Lady Gaga used was blonde with streaks of both baby pink and black in it. The black combined with the skeleton make-up really brings this outfit into it’s own.

There are lots of videos on YouTube which tell you the best way to create the make up. Unfortunately every time I post one it seems to get taken down! Do a search on YouTube for ‘born this way skeleton tuxedo make up tutorial’ and see what you find. I believe the most important part of the make up is the black around the eyes.

Watching the video you don’t actually get to see what shoes Lady Gaga wears with this, but I would suggest a pair of black enclosed stiletto pumps would be ideal.

The Village People – An Instantly Recognizable Group Costume Idea

A really fun idea for a group at Halloween is to dress up in The Village People Costumes. This is definitely one of the more popular and fun group costume ideas!

I don’t know what it is about these outfits. but on the few occasions that I’ve seen people dress up as The Village People it’s always brought a smile to my face and I know I’m not the only one affected in that way.

So who were the Village People? A group known for bringing earwig songs into the charts such as the eternal YMCA as well as Macho Man & In The Navy.

This colorful American disco group dressed up as a native American, soldier (sometimes a member of the navy instead), a cop, a construction worker, a cowboy and a biker/leatherman.

Yeeha – This is a Fun Village People Costume!

The cowboy outfit hasn’t changed that much over the years despite different people ‘playing the role’, one thing to remember though is that The Village People were formed in the 70s which means that with this costume you should also add a moustache that Ron Burgundy would be proud of!

Village People Indian Chief Costume

This is an officially licensed costume that is ‘supposed’ to be based on the native American costume that’s worn by a member of the Village People, however it’s quite different from the one I remember from YMCA days. The one I remember wore jeans and a suede fringed jacket (very 70s frontierman look!) along with the headdress, war paint and cool boots.

This costume includes the headdress, loincloth, chestplate and boot covers. If you want to you could wear this and when you’re with the other members of the group you’ll still be recognizable as members of The Village People.

As different people came and went in the group the costumes changed a few times as well. This officially licensed Village People costume is based on the original highway patrol uniform that was worn, but a blue police uniform has also been worn at times over the years so if you have a different police uniform on hand feel free to wear it instead.

This official costume includes the shirt, trousers, boot covers, helmet and belt which is all you really need. If you want to add a little extra then a black pleather jacket would be good along with a pair of handcuffs hanging off of the belt.

Do You Have YMCA Stuck in Your Head Now?

I must admit I wasn’t a fan of YMCA, but whenever I heard it I couldn’t get it out of my head. I hadn’t heard it for a few years until my daughter’s first school disco in primary school when the organizers decided to infiltrate our kid’s heads with this earwig song.

If you haven’t heard of the expression earwig song it basically means a song that gets stuck in your head and won’t get out. Now there is a cure, but unfortunately that cure has a side effect…….. simply start humming The Birdie Song and it’ll get rid of any earwig song you have – the side effect is that you’re often left with The Birdie Song stuck in there instead!

These days I don’t mind hearing the song as I get a touch nostalgic when it’s played ….. and I remember how cute it was watching my daughter dance to it!!

Lady Gaga’s ‘Bodysuit Era’ Costumes

Lady Gaga has certainly made her stamp on pop culture and in particular with her array of amazing costumes. In her early days she really seemed to re-define the simple bodysuit turning it into a number of different outfits, let’s have a look at how she did this in her unique style.

Black, red and nude are all colors of bodysuit that Lady Gaga has embraced as her own and each one has been worn differently.

Lady Gaga’s Black Bodysuit Inspired Outfits

If you purchase a black body suit or you already own one there are two different ways in which you can turn it into a Lady Gaga outfit.

One way is by copying this poster image and combining the bodysuit with a Lady Gaga inspired ‘hood‘, black gloves, a red belt and (of course) a pair of classic wayfarers.

Another look which has been based around a black bodysuit called for it to be teamed with a black jacket, black gloves, a long blonde wig (unless you have long blonde hair yourself – straight not curly). Complete the look with a pair of wayfarers and a gold multi strand waist chain around (funnily enough) your waist!

Lady Gaga’s White Bodysuit Costumes

The white bodysuit gets a totally different look and this is where you can let your creativity take over as you make some origami diamonds! Lady Gaga combined her white bodysuit with the same long blonde wig used above, but added origami style diamonds on one shoulder of her bodysuit. These should also be white in color.

How to Make Origami Diamonds – This link will help show you how to make them, now okay I’ll admit I doubt the Mother Monster uses actual origami herself, but it’s the look that she adopted and for a costume affair I wouldn’t try and replicate the look in fabric myself and would stick to cardstock.

The Red Bodysuit – Lady Gaga Style!

When it comes to wearing a red bodysuit you need to team it with a black belt, red gloves, a red hood, long blonde wig, large oversized wayfarers and a long gold chain around her neck.

You’re going for the screen siren look so make sure you paint your lips as red as the bodysuit and wear very high black stilettos so that you give that ‘Marilyn wiggle’ when you walk!

As far as make up goes (besides the red lipstick) stick to false eyelashes, eyeliner, mascara and an almost nude eyeshadow – you can keep things understated because you’re not going to be taking off those sunglasses day or night!

How Lady Gaga Rocked The Nude Bodysuit

When it comes to pulling off a Lady Gaga costume starting with a nude bodysuit you have three different outfits you can try and emulate.

The first look is one that scandalized Parisians when she first ventured out in it as at first glance it looked like she’d gone out wearing a blazer and nothing else!

You’ll need to team your bodysuit with a beige/taupe blazer style jacket, a string of pearls, a large bag (the YSL downtown bag is the one Lady Gaga actually used, but I would use an imitation myself!), Harry Potter inspired glasses and the infamous Gaga hair bow.

The second look is completely different and requires you to team your bodysuit with a big pair of wayfarers, a leather jacket, fishnet tights (and they can have holes in them if you like) along with a thick leather choker style necklace.

The third look is what I’ve seen referred to as Lady Gaga’s Purple Beehive look. Team the bodysuit up with a white jacket that has 3/4 length sleeves and large purple framed sunglasses (I think they were Tom Fords). Combine this with a pair of high heels that have laces tied up and around her legs and then the hair ……. what can I say? You’ll need a wig and a hair piece for this style I think – basically add a long, straight, blonde wig and assemble a purple beehive on top of this with the hairpiece – I haven’t quite worked out how to do this yet!

Have you ever been to an alphabet party? When I was in my early 20s they were all the rage, somehow every time I was invited to one it was always a P party which meant dressing up as something beginning with the letter P. You can choose any letter of the alphabet however and today I’ve chosen the letter N.

Fancy dress parties or costume parties are so much more fun when they’re themed, but you don’t always want to have an 80s party, beach theme event or even a Star Wars themed party. Choosing a letter to base your party around is fun because seeing how people interpret it can be really interesting…..some people really know how to think outside of the box.

Fancy Dress Outfits Starting with M

If you’re looking for costumes that begin with M for a themed party then I’ve compiled a great list for you from the irrepressible M&Ms to classic costumes like Maid Marion or a Matador. Of course there’s lots more to choose from including some great ones for children of the 80s like Maverick, Madonna and Michael Jackson (yes I know Madonna and Michael Jackson weren’t just in the 80s, but their iconic costumes were!)

I’ve compiled this page with a range of others as I used to attend alphabet parties in my 20s and they were so much fun. I read a few years ago that they were making a comeback so for those of you who draw a blank when you have to come up with ideas for costume party here’s your resource list

Cool Costumes Beginning with M

I’ve put these costume ideas in alphabetical order, I don’t know if that will make it easier for you or not, but it helped me to make sure I didn’t double up on ideas!

M&Ms – I love these costumes and if there’s a group of you going to a ‘M’ themed event then you can go as different colored M&Ms which is a very effective group costume.

Mad Hatter – everyone loves the Mad Hatter and he’s so much fun to dress up as whether you choose the classic version or Johnny Depp’s version.
Madame Pompadour – Madame Pompadour was chief mistress to France’s King Louis XV from the 1740s to her death in the 1760s so if you want a historical costume then this would be a great person to dress up as.
Madonna – there are lots of great costumes that Madonna has worn, I tend to think of her Desperately Seeking Susan look when I first think of dressing up as her, but you could always wear her pink dress from Material Girl where she was basically copying Madonna or her ‘Like a Virgin’ wedding dress outfit.
Mae West – blonde and glamorous actress from Hollywood’s classic years of the 1930s and 40s Mae West was known for her risque double entrendres which means she could be a fun person to dress up as……you could get away with saying all sorts!
Mafia man or woman – pinstriped 1930 suits with machine guns or baseball bats.

Marathon Runner – If you’ve left your costume to the last minute or you just want to wear something that you can make yourself then this is the one for you. Simply put on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, some running shoes and get two bits of paper with a number on them and stick one on your back and one on your front. A sports bottle adds another nice touch and you could also spray a little water onto your t-shirt to emulate sweat if you really wanted to.

Monarch Butterfly – I’ve only seen these costumes in the last couple of years and they really are gorgeous.
Money – You can buy costumes that are fashioned after money, but this is also one you can make yourself. Cut out a big piece of cardboard and draw on it as though it were a dollar bill and stick it to your outfit. Alternatively just stick lots of Monopoly money all over you.
Monk – a monk is a very easy costume to wear as it’s very forgiving if you don’t have quite the right figure! I also like the idea of getting a monk costume as it could double as a Friar Tuck costume as well as a Sheldon Cooper costume (remember the episode where they attended a Renaissance Fair and he got annoyed at the historical inaccuracies?)
