Have you ever been to an alphabet party? When I was in my early 20s they were all the rage, somehow everytime I was invited to one it was always a P party which meant dressing up as something beginning with the letter P. You can choose any letter of the alphabet however and today I’ve chosen the letter K.

Fancy dress parties or costume parties are so much more fun when they’re themed and choosing a letter to base your party around is fun because seeing how people interpret it can be really interesting….some people really know how to think outside of the box.

There are so many different ways that you can dress up your bathroom for Halloween, but I think a bloody bathroom is one of the best. Using this Bloody Shower Curtain and building your bathroom decorating around it can give you a great Norman Bates inspired bathroom.

A Norman Bates/Psycho Shower Curtain

Creating a Bloody Bathroom SceneWhen I saw the above shower curtain I could hear Janet Leigh’s scream in my head, but if you want to replicate it you could try this shower curtain below that is also inspired by Norman Bates. It comes with a sound box and replicates her scream as people walk into the room – now that’s a great Halloween trick!

The shadow as well as the blood is guaranteed to make me jump when I see it, even if I’ve put it there myself!
One of the reviewers on Amazon even mentions that they put a strobe light in the shower stall behind this curtain – now my imagination is telling me that it would be an awesome idea…….{{wandering off to see if I can get hold of a strobe light}}
Okay this shower curtain DOES NOT contain the sound box, unfortunately the one I used to feature doesn’t appear to be available anymore, but this is still a cool idea for a shower curtain.

Who’s Norman Bates, what scream? If you’re asking these questions then you haven’t seen the movie Psycho, it’s an absolute classic and Janet Leigh gets killed in the shower when Norman Bates stabs her – now it makes sense doesn’t it? While we’re talking about Psycho let me tell you about my introduction to the movie….

The 1st time I ever watched Psycho was years and years after it was released and what was I doing? Staying in a motel with my hubby. This proved not to be a very good idea.

I was having a shower the next morning (and yes there was a shower curtain) and my hubby came in to see if I wanted a cuppa….I saw the shadow outside of the shower and did a great impression of Janet Leigh! – I’m not allowed to watch Horror movies in motels anymore!

Back to creating a bloody bathroom.

If you don’t use a shower curtain then don’t despair you can still create a bloody bathroom feature by using bloody Halloween clings on the inside of a shower door or the outside of the bathroom window and a bloody bathmat just by the shower is a great touch too.

More Than Just a Bloody Shower Curtain

More Bloody Halloween Decor for Your BathroomThere are lots of different ways of creating a bloody bathroom besides a Norman Bates inspired shower curtain. A great idea is to start off with some crime scene tape and putting it across the bathroom door signalling a crime scene ahead, a liberal amount of fake blood and bloody Halloween clings around your bathroom could create soem great atmosphere.

Other ideas are adding a few severed body parts into the bath or poking out from behind the shower curtain just daring people to take a peek

Not only would this be a fantastic idea for Halloween you could also have a themed Dexter party when the new season begins and create a bloody bathroom for him to investigate. Alternatively if you want a night in with friends watching horror movies then you can create a bathroom for a bit of fun – I’d hate to be the first unsuspecting guest to need to go to the bathroom! It would certainly be a night that would be talked about for some time I imagine.

When I was younger dressing up as a ghost was the thing to do if you left it until the last minute to sort out your fancy dress costume.

There was no going to a costume shop for a ghost outfit, you just got one of your’ mum’s old white sheets and threw it over yourself. Most mums would let you cut eyes out so that you can see, but it could be fun not doing that!!

Ghost Make Up

It’s universally agreed that a ghost would not look the same as you and I because their blood no longer flows and they’re cold. This would give them a pale, grey look to their face. The ghost look is easy to achieve with the right make-up.

If you want to look like quite a gaunt ghost then use the grey shadow under your cheekbones to accent the ‘scary, haven’t eaten for centuries’ look.
Eyes should have dark circles under them as ghosts don’t sleep. I would use grey or blue under the eyes and black on the lids along with black eye liner.
As far as lips go remember that ghosts are cold so they’re unlikely to have pink lips instead try a burgandy color for the goth effect or a nude color, even a blue tint would work well.

Fancy Dress Ideas That Begin with the Letter J

Fancy dress parties or costume parties are so much more fun when they’re themed, but you don’t always want to have an 80s party, or even a Star Wars themed party. Choosing a letter to base your party around is fun because seeing how people interpret it can be really interesting…..some people really know how to think outside of the box.

There are some great costumes that begin with the letter J, but one which you may find easy to go as if it’s a last minute idea is James Bond. Provided you can say, “The name’s Bond, James Bond,” and you don’t mind drinking martinis all night this is a pretty easy costume as it only requires a suit or a tux – add a toy gun and you’re licenced to thrill!

Halloween Trick or Treat Pails & Bags

Now when it comes to Trick or Treating it’s very important to take something with you to collect all of the candy in. Now to be perfectly honest if I had been able to go trick or treating when I was a child then I’d have been quite happy with a shopping bag as long as it was big enough!

There are lots of cool pails to choose from as well as bags, personally the reusable canvas bags are great for going trick or treating with and as a parent I know they’ll fold away nicely for next year. Sometimes though the children want a special pail or bucket because it’s licensed with one of their favorite characters or because that’s what their best friends have.

Trick or Treat Pails

There are some really cool trick or treat pails available and my daughter used to like a bucket as opposed to a bag because she found it easier to swing it as she walked (or sort of skipped) between houses!

There are some really cool trick or treat buckets available however from the simple pumpkin decorated plastic bucket below to licensed buckets. Pumpkin or Jack O Lantern inspired pails are a classic and you can even get glow in the dark ones too –

Now if your child is anything like I was as a kid then I didn’t care what I collected the candy in I just wanted the sweet stuff, if that’s the case then I recommend a canvas bag. Now there are lots of cheap plastic trick or treat bags available, but if you want to get something you can reuse over several years then, personally, I think canvas is the way to go.
